This past Friday, we laid my brother-in-law to rest. It was a quiet, sacred goodbye—and one that has stirred something deep in me. Loss has a way of waking us up, doesn’t it? It shakes us from our routines, pulls us from our distractions, and whispers what we too often forget: life is fragile. And it is precious.
None of us are promised tomorrow. We know this in our heads, but days like Friday bring it into the heart. Suddenly, things that once felt urgent lose their grip, and what really matters stands clear: the people we love. The time we have. The memories we make.
So hold your little ones a little longer tonight. Say “I love you” without hesitation. Call the friend you’ve been meaning to reach out to. Forgive, even if it’s hard. Be kind, even when no one is watching. And don’t wait for a reason to be grateful—find one every day you wake up.
Because this life, for all its heartache and messiness, is still a gift. A wild, wonderful, one-time gift. And it’s worth treasuring while we still can.
With a tender heart,
Mamma Sue
